Two Die, Nasarawa Poly Shut, As Students Protest Death Of Colleague See Photos

Pandemonium rocked the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, on Wednesday after a protest turned tragic, two students reportedly killed while several others injured.

Reports gathered that it all started when an ND 2 student of Accountancy department was knocked down and killed by a vehicle using one way on Tuesday.

The aggrieved students, on Wednesday, blocked the main road in a peaceful protest demanding the state government to install speed bumps on the road.
The protest reportedly took another dimension when the security operatives called to calm the scene reportedly teargas and bullets in the air and at the students.
4026944_3

Speaking to newsmen, the Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Student Union Government (SUG), Jafaru Habibu, explained that “the incident has been reoccurring in the school for sometime because we have lost a lot of students and this sparked a lot of reactions from students and we decided to embark on a peaceful protest.”
”While they were protesting the loss of their student on the Lafia- Akwanga highway, the police shot two of their students of which one died instantly while the other one has been rushed to the hospital.
”We are always paying all the fees the institution ask us to pay so they should also meet our demands, government has continued to turn deaf ears to our plea of constructing bumps along the school road,” he added.
The Registrar of the Polytechnic, Labani Joseph, said that the management had earlier appealed to the students to shelve their protest and go back to class saying that the management of the institution promised to look into the matter but the students paid deaf ears to their pleas.
He explained that, when the protest got to its peak, they had to invite the security operatives to calm down the situation, which led to the gun duel between the students and security operatives.
The Registrar, however, pronounced that, the school has been closed down indefinitely as a result of the crises.

These Are The List of Nigerians That Will Be Executed In Indonesia By Firing Squad On July 29

Indonesia is all set to carry out its next round of executions on Friday, 29 July, which will include several foreign nationals.

A Pakistani embassy official has reportedly said that one of those is a Pakistani national.
The country, which faced international criticism after executing 14 prisoners in January and April 2015 – most of whom were found guilty of drug peddling, has 16 more prisoners on its list for this year.
The Friday execution will be carried out by firing squad and will include a citizen of Nigeria and one of Zimbabwe, in addition to the Pakistani prisoner.
Syed Zahid Raza, charge d’affaires at the Pakistani embassy in capital Jakarta, told Reuters on Tuesday, 26 July, that the Indonesian attorney general’s office invited him to meet with their officials.
He was then informed about the imminent execution of Zulfikar Ali, convicted of smuggling drugs, when the fresh round of executions take place on Friday.
The diplomat, however, said that Ali will make one last attempt to escape capital punishment by appealing for clemency directly to Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
Pakistan has reportedly requested Indonesia to stay Ali’s execution, arguing that his 2005 trial was unfair.
But Indonesia is determined to crack down on drug traffickers saying the country is facing a “drugs emergency” and thus, they will show no mercy to the offenders.
Meanwhile, Noor Rochmad, Junior Attorney General for public crime affairs in Indonesia, was quoted by Antara News as saying on Monday (25 July) that the office would announce the date and number of inmates to be executed once those details are finalised.
The executions are due to take place at a maximum security prison on Nusakambangan Island in Central Java, Reuters reported, adding that those likely to face the death penalty this week include citizens of France, Britain and the Philippines.
Indonesia’s online news website Tempo reported on Tuesday that 14 death row prisoners convicted in drug trafficking cases have already been moved to an isolation cell in Batu Penitentiary in the Nusakambangan Island.
They were moved in the isolation cell around 10pm local time on Monday (25 July). “There are 14 people.
Two from Pasir Putih Penitentiary, two from Kembang Kuning Penitentiary, one from Besi Penitentiary, and nine from Batu Penitentiary,” one source in Batu Penitentiary told the news portal.

3 Things That Is Going To Happen Now That Adekunle Gold Has Released His Debut Album

Finally! (Nigeria’s version of Justin Bieber according to a colleague of mine)Adekunle Gold blessed us with the release of his debut album aptly titled ‘Gold’.

adekunle gold 2

Even though he tried to pull ‘BeyoncĂ©’ on us, the album has been received well by fans and critics alike. But what does the release of this long awaited album mean for our industry that has seen in recent times a decline in the release of full projects by new artistes this year?
So far, Adekunle, Lil Kesh and Kiss Daniel remain the only new acts to have put up an album in 2016 at the time of writing this article.
Here are some of my predictions on what to expect in the next couple of months
We will have Adekunle Mania for the next month or so
From all indications, everybody loves Adekunle Gold. And now that he has a full body of work out, be rest assured you will hear and see his name everywhere – at least on radio and on social media.
I just know whatever plaudits Mr Gold gets on this album, he truly deserves it. You have to admire the guts of the man. Like Joey Akan (music editor at Pulse) rightly stated, “Adekunle Gold worked his way through the right channels, identified a sound, and released a debut single titled ‘Let It Stop’, a song about peace for the nation. That never became a hit song.
The right channel did not pay instantly, but he kept at it, working his game and perfecting his art. What worked was option E: A beautiful rendition of One Direction’s ‘Story Of My Life’ which he titled ‘Sade’.  ‘Sade’ is credited to be the propelling force of Adekunle Gold’s career. “
aadekunle-goldu

We will see a rise in ‘Adekunle Gold type music’
Since most of our musicians suffer from what I’ve termed copy – copy syndrome, expect the really lazy ones to put out singles done in typical Adekunle Gold fashion. Now, a little borrowed inspiration is not bad but copying a beat, its rhythm and almost every other thing is just wrong!
We get it; Nigerians seem to be warming up to alternative musicians (not saying Adekunle Gold is one) but if you must follow the same road as Adekunle, find a way to carve a niche for yourself. I mean Brymo and Adekunle sound somewhat similar but each musician has an identity readily identifiable by music lovers the world over.
We will see other new acts spring into action
You know all those new acts that have kept us guessing on when their debut albums would drop, they will start running upandan to release their projects. Some may even go as far as releasing ‘leaks’ from the album if their record label is dragging its feet. Adekunle has opened up the floodgates.
Patoranking’s album will be released in a couple of days, Reekado Banks has promised to drop his by next month (what has happened to Korede Bello andDi’Ja?), Cynthia Morgan’s album is reportedly over 20 tracks long, Ycee will be announcing his release date anytime soon. These are some of the names that have revealed their album release plans. Why the likes of Niyola, Chidinma andEva haven’t thought it right to release even an EP still surprises me.
Still, let’s give a round of applause to the man of the moment: Adekunle Gold.

The federal government has finally completed Abuja-Kaduna railway project. It was commissioned earlier today by President Muhammadu Buhari. Also at the commissioning were; Senate President Bukola Saraki, Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, Kaduna state governor El Rufai, among other dignitaries.

Commissioning of Abuja-Kaduna Raiway

Speaking at the train’s main station at Idu, Abuja, Mr. Buhari said the federal government would link all states and commercial centres in the country with rail lines.
The president later took a train ride from Idu to Kubwa, a suburb of Abuja.
Construction of the Abuja-Kaduna rail began under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The project was implemented to an advanced stage before the end of that government.

Tiwa Savage's husband nearly commits suicide

Tee Billz who made suicide threats earlier in the morning did actually try to take his own life.

After posting suicidal messages on his Instagram this morning (Thursday, April 28, 2016) it has been revealed that Tiwa Savage's husband Tee Billz did try to commit suicide.
According to blogger Linda Ikeji, Tee Billz attempted to take his own life by jumping off the Lekki-Ikoyi bridge today. An eye-witness Chukwuma Ani who spoke to Ikeji said the incident happened around past 9a.m in the morning.

"A car hit his own from behind, damaging his car. He said he came out of the car and approached the driver of the vehicle that hit his. He didn't know who the man was (it was Teebillz) but he said he berated him for hitting his car and asked the man to come out and assess the damage caused to his car. The man looked at him and told him to leave...that he was there for a reason. That he was planning to commit suicide and Chukwuma Ani would hear about it later..." wrote Linda Ikeji.

She further wrote "Not knowing who the guy was or understanding why he was talking suicide, Mr Ani said he kept insisting that the driver must come down from his car and see the damage he had caused to his car. He said he noticed alcohol on the floor of the driver's car so thought the man was drunk. He said while shouting and berating the driver for hitting his car, the guy just suddenly drove his car with speed to the front.
"Ani said he got into his own car and gave chase and was surprised to see the driver of the car parking his car in the middle of the bridge as other cars drove past. He said he parked in front of the driver and approached the man again, telling him that he couldn't even apologize for hitting his car and was instead trying to drive off. He said as he was berating the man, he (Teebillz) got down from his car and walked to the bridge railing.

He said he stood there wondering what the driver was trying to do and it was at that point that two other cars approached them. He said as he was trying to figure out who the new comers were, Teebillz had moved to the bridge railing and was trying to jump. Mr. Ani said a light skinned guy came out from the first car and began running towards Teebillz screaming and that was when he realized what was going on.." further wrote the blogger.

It was reported that Peter Okoye and Banky W joined other people in saving Tee Billz from committing suicide. "I thought I was watching a movie" Ani told LIB "the man held the railing and tried to jump over it and that was when the yellow man held him and started shouting for help. The two of them nearly fell into the water. I quickly joined the yellow man to pull the guy out and while we were struggling with him, one PSquare twin (Peter Okoye) and Banky W joined us to pull the man out" Ani said

‘Arms deal fraud made me leave PDP,’ Ex-governor says

Former Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda made the remark in a letter sent to PDP Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff.

Former Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda

Former Bauchi State GovernorIsa Yuguda has said that he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because of the $2.1 billion arms deal fraud in which some top members of the party were allegedly involved.

Yuguda made the remark in a letter sent to PDP Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff and obtained by Punch.
The letter reads:
“I wish to tender my resignation as a member of the PDP effective from today, Saturday, 23rd April, 2016. My decision was informed by the shocking revelations on the embezzlement of $2.1bn meant for the procurement of arms to fight insurgency and reduce the sufferings of the victims of the insurgency.
“This dastardly act by the leadership and members of the government of the PDP has left a moral burden on all the members of the PDP. With $500m, the lives of the over two million deprived Internally Displaced Persons would have been better today.
“I was a governor from the zone who received no material or financial support from the then Federal Government, and was also a witness to the wasting of human lives and properties because of the non-availability of fighting equipment and relief materials.
“The realisation that the funds were embezzled which led to the death of thousands of women, children, young men and unarmed members of the Nigerian security forces have made it impossible for me to continue my membership of the party.
“He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. Rationality, morality and common sense suggest that the PDP chairman should have cleared his name before aspiring to that position. In an ideal country, an allegation against a public officer compels him to resign his appointment.
“In view of the foregoing reasons and my hard-earned reputation and other track records, I cannot be part of the characters that formed the present PDP leadership, as such, I do resign my membership of the party.”
The arms deal fraud is believed to have been supervised by former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.

Soyinka’s comments are contained in an address to the National Conference on Culture and Tourism on Wednesday, April 27, 2016.

Wole Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka has spoken on the deadly attacks being carried out by Fulani herdsmen around the country.
Soyinka’s comments are contained in an address to the National Conference on Culture and Tourism on Wednesday, April 27, 2016.
Read the full speech below:
Culture is closely intertwined with tourism – the former, in fact, often drives the latter. The destination uppermost in the minds of most tourists we know is – Culture. This means that both share friends and – enemies.
Of the principal enemies, seeing that we find ourselves within the precincts of governance, I intend to engage your attention in this brief address to just one: Insecurity. That inability of any vacationist to let go completely, relax, submit oneself completely to the offerings of a new environment – the sounds, sights, smells, textures and taste. Of Culture itself, in and or out of the touristic intent, there is no ambiguity in the mind of its enemies.
They make no bones about their detestation – call them Taliban, Daesh or Isis, al Shabbab or Boko Haram. Their hatred is pathological and impassioned to a degree that goes beyond the pale, beyond insanity and sadly beyond cure. The duty of governance towards such retrogressive outbreaks remains unambiguous.
After Boko Haram, what next? In fact, at this moment, Boko Haram has no ‘after’ since it is by no means ended, no matter what technical expressions such as “militarily degraded’ means. But let us assume indeed that we are already in the past of Boko Haram.
It is now clear that the succession is already decided, the ‘vacated’ space is already conceded, and that the new territorial aspirants are already securely positioned. The entire nation appears to be theirs without a struggle, and the continuity of an established Nigerian necropolis north to south and east to west is being consolidated.
Some necropoles are actually architecturally fascinating. They attract visitors from distant places, but those are works of veneration, artistry and dedication. They are visual feasts, among whose structures the visitors actually picnic, leave flowers and symbolic gifts to hovering ancestors. Latin America is full of them. The Nigerian widening necropoles leave only the taste of bile in the mouth, the corrosion of hate, stench and rage.
When I read a short while ago, the Presidential assurance to this nation that the current homicidal escalation between the cattle prowlers and farming communities would soon be over, I felt mortified. He had the solution, he said. Cattle ranches were being set up, and in another 18 months, rustlings, destruction of livelihood and killings from herdsmen would be ‘a thing of the past’.
Eighteen months, he assured the nation. I believe his Minister of Agriculture echoed that later, but with a less dispiriting time schema. Neither, however, could be considered a message of solace and reassurance for the ordinary Nigerian farmer and the lengthening cast of victims, much less to an intending tourist to the Forest Retreat of Tinana in the Rivers, the Ikogosi Springs or the moslem architectural heritage of the ancient city of Kano. In any case, the external tourists have less hazardous options.
However there is also internal tourism, to be considered a premium asset – both economically and in spirit of nation building and personal edification. This was an exercise I indulged in in the early sixties as by-product of other engagements, such as research.
A lot however was simply under curiosity. I can claim, modestly claim to be among the top twenty-five per cent internally travelled Nigerians, acquainted with the smells, textures and tastes of their geographical habitation. I wish the late Segun Olusola were around to testify to the sudden bouts of tourist explorations we made in his Volkswagen Beetle in the pre-war sixties.
But now, would the young adventurous set out to visit the mystery caves of Anambra and its alleged curative pools from mere interest? They would think twice about it. It is not merely arbitrary violence that reigns across the nation but total, undisputed impunity.
Impunity evolves and becomes integrated in conduct when crime occurs and no legal, logical and moral response is offered. I have yet to hear this government articulate a firm policy of non-tolerance for the serial massacres have become the nation’s identification stamp.
I have not heard an order given that any cattle herders caught with sophisticated firearms be instantly disarmed, arrested, placed on trial, and his cattle confiscated. The nation is treated to an eighteen-month optimistic plan which, to make matters worse, smacks of abject appeasement and encouragement of violence on innocents.
Let me repeat, and of course I only ask to be corrected if wrong: I have yet to encounter a terse, rigorous, soldierly and uncompromising language from this leadership, one that threatens a response to this unconscionable blood-letting that would make even Boko Haram repudiate its founding clerics.
It is now close to a year since I attempted to utilize the Open Forum platform of the Centre for Culture and International Understanding, Oshogbo, to launch a national debate on the topic – SACRED COWS OR SACRED RIGHTS. The signs were already clear and the rampage of impunity was already manifesting a cultic intensity of alarming proportions. For reasons which are too distasteful to go into here, the forum did not take place.
We were already agreed that General Buhari be invited to give a keynote address, based on his long experience in such matters as former head of state, and as a cattle rearer himself who might be be able to penetrate the mentality of this ‘post-Boko Haram’ pestilence’. That challenge remains open, but should now involve this gathering, which surely includes tourist and educational agencies.
They should join hands with human rights organisations, the Ministry of Agriculture, Farming and local Vigilante associations etc. It is a gauntlet thrown down to be picked up, and urgently, by any of the affected or troubled sectors of society, or indeed any capable and interested party at this conference. The CBCIU is prepared to collaborate.
Let me narrate a personal experience – just one among many – that was brought home to me, right against my doorstep. Before that specific happening, I had observed a change of quality in forest encounters with cattle herdsmen over the years.
These changes had become sufficiently alarming for me to arrange meetings with a few governors and, later, with the late National Security Adviser General Azazi. At the time, we thought that they were Boko Haram, infiltrating into the south under guise of cattle herding. That was then, and of course that surmise has never been firmly proven or disproved.
Recently however, I returned from a trip outside the country about to find that my home ground had been invaded, and a brand-new “Appian way” sliced through my sanctuary. That ‘motorable’ path was made by the hoofed invaders. Both the improvised entry and exit are now blocked, but interested journalists are invited to visit. In over two decades of living in that ecological preserve, no such intrusion had ever occurred.
I have no idea whether they were Fulani or Futa Jalon herdsmen but, they were cattle herders, and they had cut a crude swathe through my private grounds. I made enquiries and sent alerts around, including through the Baale of our neighborhood village. There has been no repeat, and hopefully it will remain the first and last of such invasion. What it portends however is for all thinking citizens to reflect upon, and take concerted measures against.
Herdsmen, let us appreciate, are perhaps humanity’s earliest known tourists. They must be taught however that there is a culture of settlement, and learn to seek accommodation with settled hosts wherever encountered.
The leadership of any society cannot stand idly and offer solutions that implicitly deem the massacres of innocents mere incidents on the way to that learning school. For every crime, there is a punishment, for every violation, there must be restitution. The nomads of the world cannot place themselves above the law of settled humanity.

How to choose the perfect lipstick for your skin tone

Wearing lipstick gives the lips a sweeter look… only when they are perfectly worn. For a lipstick to be as beautiful as it is designed to be, it has to be worn with on a fitting skin tone… Else, one just ends up looking like a masquerade.
There are over a million shades of lipstick, but it is important to note that one doesn’t just buy a lipstick because it looks beautiful, you need to first check how well it will fit you. See below a few tips that can help tell which lipstick best fits you.

  1. LIP SHAPE
The first thing to check before buying any lipstick is the shape of your lip. There are some general rules that apply to certain lip shapes like darker colours makes the lips look smaller, while brighter colours makes the lips appear bigger.
Decide on if you want a smaller lip or bigger lip before buying.
Another factor that determines how well your lipstick fits is your skin tone.
  1. FAIR SKIN
If you are fair in complexion, it usually means choosing lighter shades of lipstick like nudes, pinks or light browns. However, for times when you want to rock a dark lipstick shade, it’s totally allowed because you will look amazing in it. But generally speaking, nudes and beiges usually work well to brighten up a fair complexion.

  1. MEDIUM SKIN
For medium skin tones, you allowed to have quite a number of colours, like browns, red, fuschias and peaches. It fits well and enhances your beauty.
  1. DARKER SKIN
Dark complexion goes better with dark shade lipsticks, like dark red. They make your lips look gorgeous. However, these ladies can also rock nudes and lighter colors instead of the recommended reds, but should totally avoid orange.
Ladies, you don’t need to look awful because of your lipstick. Know that not all lipsticks were meant for you, then, be sure to get a colour that fits and give your lips and face the beauty they deserve.

7 Ways To Know You Have Lost Your Guy

sad-black-woman
Absolutely, gone are the days when romantic affairs are usually ended with one person calling it quit through face to face or through a message sent to the other person. These days, people embark on what I call a ‘silent withdrawal’. GLTRENDS put together in this piece 7 ways to know that you are no longer in a guy’s life
1) He becomes too busy: When a guy loves you and he is into you, no amount of work load can prevent him from having quality time with you; except he doesn’t reside in the same town as you. When a guy becomes too busy to share quality time with you, just know that it could be possible that you have expired in his life! You need to re-evaluate your stand, gurl.
2) He hardly call like he used to: When a guy doesn’t call you as he used to, you have probably expired in his life! The fact is that his precious air time has been re-directed to another person who his heart desires. You need to dust your a*s and move on, gurl! I know it’s painful.
3) He wouldn’t allow you to meet his family members as promised: If he has promised to take you to his parents and other family members previously but now unwilling to do that, it is a very clear sign that you have expired in his life! He must have switched gears and changed plans. The truth is that he doesn’t consider you worthy to be introduced as a wife-to-be!
4) He becomes less generous with his money: No reasonable guy wants to continue investing in the life of someone he doesn’t want to share the future with. Guys normally think it is a waste of resources taking care of the needs of a lady who they are not into. If he has been generous with his cash but now, you can’t even get a torn 10 Naira note from him, even when you can clearly see that he’s financially stable, you should start buckling your shoes to leave.
5) He always avoids meeting you: When a guy starts avoiding you, you might have expired! Whenever you say you are coming over, there’s always one excuse you would get why you won’t meet him at home. If you ask him to come over to your place, that’s when he becomes too busy or ‘not in town’ .
6) He doesn’t mind taking calls from random girls in your presence: Haven’t you read the hand-writing on the wall? Has he been like this in the past? He’s indirectly telling you that your feeling or opinion doesn’t matter anymore!
7) He doesn’t take you out anymore: Yes! He doesn’t do that because he doesn’t want people to see the both of you together. The more they see both of you together, the more it seems like every thing is working
